In its short comment to the European Commission’s Roadmap concerning a Communication on EU support for capital local markets, ACCIS recalls that academic evidence and business practice support the view that credit bureaus and credit reporting service providers (CRSPs) play a crucial role in collecting and providing information on SMEs to financial market participants and, as such, they are a key ingredient for improving SME financing. In order to facilitate SMEs’ access to local capital markets, ACCIS urges the Commission to encourage other European and national authorities to take a number of initiatives. These include (i) to enable all relevant data providers to report SMEs’ positive and negative data to credit bureaus; and (ii) to facilitate access of SMEs to credit bureaus’ data by reducing bureaucracy.
